Niall Carew is the new Waterford football manager

The St. Kevin’s clubman will be ratified at a meeting of the Déise county board on Monday evening.

NIALL CAREW HAS been appointed Waterford senior football manager, pending formal ratification at a meeting of the county board on Monday night.

The St. Kevin’s clubman had worked as a selector with Kieran McGeeney for the last five years but resigned four weeks ago, shortly after the Lilywhites’ boss had been reappointed by his county board.

Carew reportedly first met with Déise officials early last week, and ironed out the final details of his tenure on Saturday afternoon.

He is expected to name Noel Mallen as his strength and conditioning coach.

Mallen is another former member of McGeeney’s backroom team, as is Tony Kelly, expected to be brought in as a selector.

Two local selectors will be added in the coming week.
