PROLIFIC BRAZIL STRIKER Neymar been an omnipresence on the transfer wish-lists of Europe’s top clubs for nearly two years, but has thus far spurned the advances of Barcelona, Chelsea and Real Madrid.
Last weekend, however, rumours were published in the Brazilian media suggesting the siege may be close to an end. Neymar had, apparently, finalised a deal with Spanish giants Real Madrid and undergone a secret medical at a San Paulo hospital.
Today, ESPN reports that Neymar has issued an official response to the allegations, reiterating his desire to remain with Santos until the club’s centenary celebrations are at an end.
“I have been sold like 30 times… That is all speculation, there is no deal. I went to the hospital to solve a personal problem.”
Compelling though his denial is, it’s worth noting that the deal the striker was actually rumoured to have signed wouldn’t see him relocate to Spain until after the 2012 Olympics, months after the club’s centenary came to an end.
