Newsflash: unemployed caddy would work for Tiger Woods

Paddy Power had veteran Irish caddy Colin Byrne at 7/2 to take over from Steve Williams as Tiger Woods’ caddy before anyone thought to ask for his thoughts on the matter. As it turns out, he’s okay with the idea.

BRIAN KEOGH OVER at Irish Golf Desk has posted a brief interview with European Tour caddy and Irish Times columnist Colin Byrne discussing the latter’s emergence as one of the most likely candidates to take Steve Williams’ place in Tiger Woods’ entourage.

His arrangement with Italy’s Edoardo Molinari having come to a sudden end a little over a fortnight ago, the Dubliner is currently on the look-out for a new bag, and as far as he’s concerned, there’s no bag more attractive than that of the game’s greatest ever player.

“I’d love to do it. It would be flattering and a great challenge to work for someone that talented…

“The peripheral stuff that goes on around Tiger would be the biggest challenge.

“You have to be a minder as well doing the basics of caddying but you just have to do your job.”

Not quite on that same level (even with Tiger slipping out of the top-20 in the world rankings), Byrne’s next gig will be caddying for talented young amateur Lisa Maguire at the Ladies Irish Open next week.
