Sligo look to Tyrone for their new football manager

Cathal Corey was appointed last night.

CATHAL COREY OF Tyrone has been appointed the new Sligo senior football manager after a meeting of the county board on Monday night.

The Kildress Wolfe Tones man has never managed at inter-county level before but he was in the running for the Donegal role twice and has worked alongside Jim McGuinness at club level.

Indeed, Corey and McGuinness won the Donegal club championship with Naomh Conaill in 2010 before they were beaten in the Ulster decider by Crossmaglen.

He has previously managed both Slaughtneil and Banagher in Derry.

Corey will finalise his backroom team over the coming weeks with Sligo’s first competitive game set to be the Allianz National Football League Division III clash with Armagh in late January.
