FOUR-TIME ALL-Ireland winner Paul Galvin says it was an ‘honour’ to design the new Kerry GAA jersey which was launched today.

The new retro-style strip, which he designed in collaboration with O’Neills, was inspired by the Kingdom’s 1985 All-Ireland winning team.

It features a round collar with a white trim, three white stripes on the shoulders and white trimmed sleeves. Featured in the video released by Kerry GAA this afternoon is Pádraig Óg Ó Sé, son of the late Paidí Ó Sé who was a corner-back on that ’85 side.

“We hope that past players will recognise the new jersey as a symbol of respect, that current players will wear it as a symbol of pride and identity and that future players will want to wear it,” said Galvin.

“The new design is inclusive, rich in storytelling and strong in identity.”

The former Footballer of the Year, who works as a designer for Dunnes Stores, says he was approached by the county board to draft the jersey and spent a number of months working on it.

“Inspired by the iconic 1985 Kerry jersey, the deep green and gold base with white trims was essential to re-connecting with Kerry’s identity while also helping to implement part of the county board’s vision for the future in addressing the issue of number visibility for supporters.

“It was an honour to work on it,” he added.
