HE’S NO LONGER world No 1, but Rory McIlroy sat down with the PGA Tour website today to talk about his preparations for the Masters, his home life and texting Tiger. Here’s what we learned:
6. He’s found the past period ‘tough’
The multi-million dollar Nike deal, all the attention that brings, his infamous walk-off at the Honda Classic… it all adds up to a hectic and stressful period in the Holywood man’s life.
“I don’t think I’ll ever go through a period like that again in my career with everything that was going on,” he says.
5. He isn’t reading this
McIlroy says he’s powered down the laptop and stopped reading what people write about him.
“I haven’t read anything over the last sort of two weeks after The Honda Classic,” he says, “I made a conscious decision to do that just because it doesn’t do me any good reading it because I already know what I’ve done and I know what I’ve said, so there’s no point in reading about it again.”

4. He has lunch with Jack Nicklaus every now and then
“At the start it was more of a student-teacher relationship but now it’s not that at all. He tells me stories from his day and it’s all very interesting to me.”
Sounds like the plot for a particularly boring TV move, bro.
3. He’s got big plans for his new house
Caroline Wozniacki wants to put in a tennis court in his new Florida pad and he might lash in a pool and gym too. No biggie.

1. His girlfriend Caroline Wozniacki might be at the Masters
And McIlroy might get her to tog out if so. “She was planning on coming last year, but she had to go back to Europe and do a few commercial things. It would be nice to get her in a boiler suit and get her to caddie in the par 3 contest.”
You could watch that goal 100 times and want to see it again.
The power on it is unreal, I’ve played amateur football for years but had I ever attempted that I would require hip surgery and the ball still wouldn’t have landed.
