JOHN JOE NEVIN, Paddy Barnes, Michael Conlan and Jason Quigley have each secured a medal at the European Championships in Belarus today, after their wins guaranteed them at least a bronze.

Nevin beat Krisztian Nagy of Hungary, comfortably defeating him in all three rounds, with scores of 30-24, 30-27, 30-25.

Meanwhile, Barnes was given a sterner test against another Hungarian, Istvan Ungvari, yet he eventually won out 29-28, 27-30, 29-28.

In addition, Quigley added to Ireland’s medal tally, beating Stefan Haertel of Germany 30-27, 30-27, 29-28.

And finally, Michael Conlan achieved an impressive victory against Belarus’ Siarhei Loban this evening.

The Irish boxer overcame his opponent by way of a technical knockout in the second round.

All four boxers will now feature in the semi-finals of the competition.

There was disappointment, however, for Tommy McCarthy, as he was beaten by Teymur Mammadou of Azerbaijan, losing 29-28 on all three cards.
