Wasps flanker says he can't name a single Leinster player

‘I heard they won a few years ago but I don’t know anything other than that.’

MATT O’CONNOR WILL be buying a bulletin board and some Blu-Tack to pin things to it after he reads this interview from the Bucks Free Press with Wasps back row Nathan Hughes.

Hughes moved from Auckland to Wasps in 2013 and was asked about how it feels to face three-time European champions Leinster in their Champions Cup opener. He must have left his scouting report in a taxi like a Gloucester lad did in 2003.

“I don’t really follow rugby outside of England and New Zealand so don’t know much about Leinster,” Hughes said.

“I heard they won a few years ago but I don’t know anything other than that. I do know Brian O’Driscoll used to play for them, but I can’t name any of their players now.”

Rugby has moved on a bit from the days of firing up the players over slights from the opposition, but for a Leinster team who already have a fair bit to prove this weekend, this will surely piss them off even more.
