IRELAND’S BARRY MURPHY clocked a stunning gold medal-winning performance in the men’s 100m breastroke at the Indianapolis Grand Prix last night.
Swimming for his US University club Wolverine Michigan he won in a time of 1:00.77 seconds. The time smashes the national senior record by .99 of a second. It is the second fastest time in the world this year.
Murphy’s display meets ‘A’ time criteria and would normally be good enough to punch his ticket to next year’s Games. But the qualification period has not commenced yet.
The Dubliner will line out in the semi-final of the men’s 50m freestyle tonight.
