Murphy's Law: Donegal talisman wins appeal against red card

Donegal skipper can now lead his side against Red Hand while it’s less happy news for Meath man Brian Farrell.

MICHAEL MURPHY WILL line out against provincial champions Tyrone in Sunday week’s Ulster SFC semi-final.

Murphy was sent off in last weekend’s win over Cavan but a four-week ban was overturned at Croke Park last night.

The CCCC heard the case last night in Drumcondra and decided that referee Marty Duffy had harshly adjudged that Murphy struck Cavan defender Damien Reilly.

Despite the absence of their captain, Donegal went on to record a 2-14 to 1-8 win over Cavan.

Do you think justice has been done? Some 86% of you will think so, judging by our poll.

It was a long night for the 21-year-old – though worth the long trip to Dublin. He tweeted early this morning: “Finally back home in Donegal. 3:50am. Delighted to be free to play in the ulster semi, looking forward to it.”

It was a less happy Twitter update from Brian Farrell however.

The Meath forward hit out at GAA disciplinary officials after losing his appeal against the red card he picked up – controversially – in the Leinster SFC quarter-final against Kildare.

The decision from referee Syl Doyle means the Royals attacker is now ineligible for the All-Ireland qualifier against Louth tomorrow week.

Farrell wrote: “Attended appeal on red card. It’s not been overturned, “as it is probable the offence occurred” . . absolutely ragin! Witchhunt?”
