Murphy sets another record at World Short Course Championships

The Dubliner missed out on a place in the final though, finishing 13th overall.

BARRY MURPHY HAS set another Irish Record at World Short Course Swimming Championships in Istanbul.

Though he failed to qualify in the semi-final of the 50m Butterfly, finishing 13th, he still secured a hugely impressive time of 23.39.

He had previously set another Irish record of 23.52 in the morning heat.

Meanwhile, Brazil’s Nicolas Santos set his second Championship Record of the day, finishing as the fastest qualifier with a time of 22.23.

Murphy now turns his attention to the final event of the Championship tomorrow, the 50m Breaststroke, in which he will be hoping for at least a semi-final spot.

The 50m Breaststroke is considered the Dubliner’s strongest event, and he finished sixth at the recent European Championships, with a new Irish Record of 26.60, consequently securing his best International ranking to date.
