Munster to wear commemorative 'Axel' jersey for this season's European campaign

The southern province are taking on Glasgow in the Champions Cup this afternoon.

MUNSTER HAVE REVEALED they will wear a special commemorative jersey for all of their European fixtures this season, to mark the untimely passing of Anthony ‘Axel’ Foley.

A statement on the province’s official website stated:

“In symbolising both the heart and commitment with which he played and coached, and the immovable place he holds in the hearts of all those associated with Munster and the wider community, our jersey will carry the name AXEL under the Munster crest in each European game this season.”

“Carrying his name, this season’s European jersey pays tribute to our coach, former captain, colleague and friend Axel, the heartbeat of Munster.”

At today’s Champions Cup encounter against Glasgow, the Munster Rugby Supporter’s Club Choir performed before a minute’s silence was impeccably observed on an emotionally-charged afternoon at Thomond Park.
