Munster aiming to make most of season's end - Coughlan

“We know we’ve six weeks of rugby left and it’s up to us to make sure it’s eight”, said the number eight who faces Connacht tonight.

MUNSTER NUMBER EIGHT James Coughlan is hoping Munster can beat Connacht in Cork tonight to give their season a jump-start.

Munster have failed to win their last three games and are currently seven points off the RaboDirect Pro12 play-off places.

However, with a Heineken Cup quarter final just two weeks away, Coughlan says the squad are determined to inject some momentum into the flagging season.

“There’s no point in not believing.” Coughlan told RedFM this week.

“We know we have Connacht this week, we have to look after that and then see where we are and reassess for next week.

“We’re still in with a shout, there’s three teams going for it and it’s up to us to do as much as we can do to make sure we’re in there.”

While the fortnight out of action suited some sides, Munster could not rest easy after a trouncing at the hands of Treviso in Italy and a home draw with Ospreys which maintained the champions six points clear of the southern province.

“We wouldn’t mind [the break] so much if we won, but we were frustrated by the Ospreys game, we felt we left points after us.

“It’s a massive challenge now for us. We know we’ve six weeks of rugby left and it’s up to us to make sure it’s eight.”

“It’s not a cup final,” He added, before suggesting that the team’s current focus is on improving the accuracy necessary for Penney’s ambitious ethos.:

“We just need to take every game as it comes and make sure we’re executing as much as we can to make sure we’re taking steps forward every week.”
