THE FULL LIST of those who will carry the Olympic torch when it crosses south and heads for Dublin have been revealed this afternoon.
The Olympic Council of Ireland outlined plans, earlier this month, for the flame to be met by by Barcelona Olympic boxing heroes Wayne McCullough and Michael Carruth on Wednesday, 6 June before touring the capital with well-known athletes, celebrities and members of the public.
Now, with the likes of Kenneth Egan, Sonia OโSullivan and Jedward already pencilled in for the relay, the full set-up has been finalised.
Though her daughter will be preparing for her gold medal bid in August, Katie Taylorโs mother Bridget will represent the four-time world champion at the event. The Bray woman was one of the countryโs first female boxing referees and, having been nominated by the OCI, will be representing her daughter and โall mumsโ.
Irelandโs most well-known jockey, Ruby Walsh will also feature on the day as well as former Irish rugby international Denis Hickie.
The torch will stop in the Olympic Council of Ireland offices in Howth for a ceremonial reception before taking in locations like Croke Park โ where hurling star Henry Shefflin takes centre-stage on the new Etihad Skyline โ- as well as Sheriff Street and St Stephenโs Green.
Up to 40 torchbearers will participate over the course of the day.
She doesnโt get enough recognitionโฆ
Canโt believe they left out our greatest olympian Michelle Smith but Jedward is ok. What the f**k do they have to do with sport???
I wouldnโt call her Irelandโs greatest Olympian. Iโd call her Irelandโs only contribution to the Great Wonders of the World movement. Did you not know she can piss pure alcohol?
Failed test or not she is still officially Irelandโs most successful Olympian.
She didnโt fail at the Olympics in fairness.
she was tested over and over again at Atlanta 96 and didnโt fail David.
Leslie, that does not explain why her last sample was almost pure alcohol.
buy it does prove that she is our most successful Olympian.
Dec kav, thats the funniest comment ive seen in a while
Off topic I know but isnโt Katie a good looking girl all the same?
i tend to agree on that particular point sir.
Woof.
Iโd step into the ring with her any day.
If thereโs a lovely Olympic girl competition thereโs our first gold in the bag already.
She won all her medals without coming close to any records, she was tested more than any other athlete and is still a better option than Jedward
She is our most successful male olympian.
#justsayin
Why are Jedward running. Who picks these things?
well jedward used to run o race walk or something before they went on the x factor
the ran for their school and represented them at an all Ireland level, remembering they were only 16/17 when they went to x factor.
Lovely lady. Go Katie!
