Muamba watches Bolton on MOTD - and falls asleep half way through

Fabrice Muamba has made good progress this weekend, watching television and even getting out of bed.

BOLTON MANAGER OWEN COYLE has revealed that stricken midfielder Fabrice Muamba watched his side’s 2-1 win over Blackburn – and fell asleep during the highlights.

Muamba has been in the London Chest Hospital ever since he suffered a cardiac arrest in the FA Cup clash with Tottenham last Saturday week.

He has been making slow but constant progress in his bid to recover, recognises friends and family and is talking.

The former Birmingham midfielder woke up to Gary Lineker and co. on Sunday morning, but dropped off while the Trotters were 2-0 up.

“He was able on Sunday morning to watch Match of the Day,” Coyle said.

“If there is a bit of humour that comes out of that, I am led to believe he fell asleep when it was 2-0.”

David Wheater scored both of Bolton’s goals on the day, with Muamba missing what turned out to be a consolation from Steven Nzonzi.

Progress

It was also revealed that Muamba got out of bed for the first time this weekend and has started to eat.

“Fabrice Muamba remains in intensive care at The London Chest Hospital where his condition is serious but stable,” said a statement released by Barts and The London NHS Trust and Bolton Wanderers Football Club.

“He continues to make encouraging progress in his recovery.

“Over the weekend, he has been able to sit out of bed for a short time, watch television and has begun to eat.

“However, he will need to continue to be closely monitored by the medical team at The London Chest for some time.

“His family requests that he receive no more visitors for the moment, outside of immediate family and members of Bolton Wanderers Football Club.”
