Mount Sion, Ballygunner book the last two spots in Waterford hurling semis

Martin O’Neill finished with 12 points as Mount Sion beat Abbeyside in Walsh Park this afternoon.

MOUNT SION WILL play De La Salle in a mouth-watering Waterford Senior Hurling semi-final next weekend.

Sion booked their place in the final four with 1-21 to 0-15 win against Abbeyside in Walsh Park this afternoon.

The game was only three minutes old when Richie Roche struck the only goal and despite playing against the wind in the first half, Mount Sion led by the minimum at the break, 1-7 to 0-9.

Martin O’Neill finished with 12 points, including a monster from inside his own half, in a nine-point win.

In Sunday’s second game, Ballygunner set up a semi-final against Dungarvan with a comfortable 11-point win over Lismore.

Goals from Stephen Power, JJ Hutchinson and Harley Barnes proved crucial for Ballygunner who played most of the second half with 14 men after substitute Paul Coughlan was shown a straight red.
