Sligo Rovers have signed a former Chelsea striker

Morton Nielsen moves to the Showgrounds from the German third division.

DANISH STRIKER MORTON Nielsen has signed for Sligo Rovers.

Nielsen, 24, spent three years in the Chelsea youth academy and was part of the team which lost in the 2008 FA Youth Cup final, but never made a senior appearance.

He joins from German third division club FC Rot-Weiss Erfurt subject to international clearance.

“He has scored goals wherever he has been,” Bit O’Red boss Owen Heary said.

“He was at Chelsea for a few years when he was young training with players like Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka.

“He comes with a good pedigree, his father was a Danish international and he played underage international football too. He’s a young player who has a bit about him and is the sort of player we were looking for.

“There was a few clubs in Scotland looking to sign him so I’m delighted he has chosen to come to Rovers.”
