Every morning TheScore.ie brings you the stories you need to know before that first cup of coffee.
#FAI FORD CUP The wait goes on for St Patrick’s Athletic after Derry City shocked the favourites to win the FAI Ford Cup. Rory Patterson proved to be the hero with a double strike. The match went to extra time and while St Pat’s two goals were classy strikes, Derry edged ahead with the odd goal in five after extra time. You can relive all the drama here.
#GUINNESS SERIES Another weekend, another gigantic injury blow for Ireland. Stephen Ferris limped out of Ulster’s ninth consecutive win, over Edinburgh, and will be out of action for up to six weeks. The size of Saturday’s task against South Africa has increased yet again. Meanwhile, Leinster suffered a Pro12 loss to their old foes, Ospreys, despite leading 10-0 at one stage.
#CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS There was a plethora of GAA action across the country yesterday with St Eunan’s of Donegal making the headlines after claiming their 14th county senior football crown. There was a scare for Dr Crokes in Munster, where Castlehaven marched on, while the last four of the Leinster SHC was confirmed.

#PREMIER LEAGUE Two beautiful goals cancelled each other out at Anfield yesterday with Liverpool and Newcastle doing little to progress their claims for the European spaces. We are asking you this morning whether 12th position is all Liverpool deserve at present. QPR and Reading continued their winless steaks after another 1-1 draw. Feel free to add your voice to the debate.
#NEW YORK MARATHON The organisers of one of the world’s best-known marathons took the sensible, if slightly delayed, decision to postpone the pavement pounding. That didn’t stop around 3,000 runners from lining up at the proposed starting line and hurtling through Central Park and beyond in an effort to chase the release of sweet, sweet endorphins.
