UNLESS YOU’VE BEEN living under a rock or had no wifi access at the weekend, you’ll have heard the news that Robbie Keane is set to make a long-awaited return to Tallaght as LA Galaxy face Shamrock Rovers on 21 February.

Keane announced the news on Friday’s Late Late Show, while official details of the game have been released today.

The pre-season fixture will take place at 4pm in Tallaght Stadium, with tickets due to go on sale early in the new year and further details set to be announced in due course.

Priority for tickets will go to Shamrock Rovers members and season ticket holders. Season tickets are currently on sale through the club office at Tallaght Stadium, priced from €200 for adults and €75 for children.

Speaking ahead of the clash, Shamrock Rovers chairman, Jonathan Roche, said:

“Shamrock Rovers are delighted to be playing host to LA Galaxy at Tallaght. We very much look forward to welcoming everyone from the club here, and particularly to welcoming Robbie Keane home. We know Robbie spends a lot of time in the area when he’s home from the US, so I’m sure it will be great for him to finally play in Tallaght Stadium.

“We have had quite a few great players grace the Tallaght Stadium pitch against us, including Ronaldo and Del Piero, but to have our own local footballing hero play here will be even more special. It should be a great occasion.”

Meanwhile, the club also announced today that veteran midfielder Stephen McPhail has re-signed on a new one-year deal.

The Hoops have also captured the signature of winger Brandon Miele, who spent four years at Newcastle United and played for the club’s reserve team.
