Mo Farah confident he will talk Wayne Rooney into signing for Arsenal

The Double Olympic Gold Medallist has sent tweets of temptation to the Manchester United striker.

MO FARAH IS not resting on his laurels as the British media debate whether to declare him the greatest sportsman the country [via Somalia] has ever produced.

On Friday, the long-distance runner added to his double Olympic haul of gold medals by capturing the 5000m at the 2013 World Championships in Moscow.

Farah, who recently challenged the world’s quickest man Usain Bolt to a race over 600 or 700m, is not ready to call his summer perfect until he convinces Wayne Rooney to sign for Arsenal. The Briton told talkSPORT that he has ben in touch with the Manchester United forward and is dangling an Emirates Stadium-shaped carrot.

“I’ve been tweeting at him telling him to join us,” Farah revealed. “I’ve been saying ‘Boy, what’s going on?’… If we get Rooney I’ll be happy with that.”

The athlete added, “He hasn’t replied to me. I’m waiting for the reply.” Indeed, Rooney has not tweeted anything since 16 July. He missed six pre-season matches for United, including the Community Shield win over Wigan.

The striker played just over an hour for England, against Scotland, midweek. Chelsea have made two official bids for Rooney but Arsenal, despite reported interest, have yet to lodge a bid.

Farah, meanwhile, is considering a world record bid in the 1500m and a tilt at the London Marathon.
