MO FARAH BROUGHT his track career to a winning conclusion last night, after winning the 5,000m in dramatic style at the Diamond League event in Zurich.
The four-time Olympic champion edged the victory after a sprint finish over the last lap that went right down to the wire.
Farah led at the bell and was joined by Yomif Kejelcha and Muktar Edris of Ethiopia, along with Mohammed Ahmed (Canada) and America’s Paul Chelimo in the leading pack.
34-year-old Farah momentarily slipped into second place when Kejelcha nudged out in front, but Farah kicked on again to reclaim the lead.
Edris also tried to challenge the leader coming into the final 200m but Farah was equal to the attempt.

There was more drama to come on the final stretch as Edris launched another attack on the first place position but Farah refused to be defeated as he stretched over the line to take the win in a time of 13:06.
Meanwhile, an exhausted Edris fell to the ground as he crossed over the finishing line and brought Kejelcha down with him.
The victory will bring some comfort to Farah at the end of his track racing career, after losing his 5,000m title to Edris at the World Championships in London.

Speaking to BBC Sport after his thrilling victory, he said:
“I wanted to win, and it is amazing that I have won, but it was hard work,” said Farah. “I will miss the track, the people, my fans.
“I have enjoyed running in stadiums for a lot of years, but now first of all I will enjoy being with my family.”
Farah will now focus on competing in road races from now on.
