Mixed fortunes for Irish clubs in Europe

St Pat’s and Bohs were both in action tonight. But one Dublin side was dumped out of the Europa League.

ST PATRICK’S ATHLETIC booked their place in the next round of the Europa League with a 2-0 win over Shakter Karagandy tonight.

The Inchicore side were 2-1 down from the first leg in Kazakhstan last week. Tonight however, goals from Evan McMillan and Derek Doyle ensured that the Saints will now play Karpaty of Ukraine.

It wasn’t such good news across town however. Fellow Airtricity League side Bohemians were dumped out as they drew 1-1 at home to Slovenian side Olimpija Ljubljana, meaning they lose 3-1 on aggregate.

Glenn Cronin had given the hosts the lead but when Ger O’Brien scored an own goal, the Gypsies adventure was over.
