Simon Mignolet's ludicrous time-wasting led directly to a Bordeaux goal

SIMON MIGNOLET WILL have a bit of explaining to do at Anfield tonight.

The Liverpool keeper was left red-faced after he was penalised for holding on to the ball for 22 seconds — almost four times longer than the six seconds permitted by the rules.

Referee Alon Yefet took a dim view of the Belgian’s behaviour and awarded Bordeaux an indirect free-kick inside the Liverpool area.

There was still a hell of a lot of work to do, but Jaroslav Plasil rolled the ball to Henri Saivet who thumped it into the roof of the net to give the visitors a 1-0 lead on 33 minutes.

Liverpool hit back within five minutes, James Milner converting from the penalty spot after Christian Benteke was brought down in the box:

And Benteke gave the Reds the lead in first-half stoppage time, turning and firing past Cedric Carrasso from the edge of the box:
