SIMON MIGNOLET WILL have a bit of explaining to do at Anfield tonight.
The Liverpool keeper was left red-faced after he was penalised for holding on to the ball for 22 seconds โ almost four times longer than the six seconds permitted by the rules.
Referee Alon Yefet took a dim view of the Belgianโs behaviour and awarded Bordeaux an indirect free-kick inside the Liverpool area.
This clip shows just part of Mignoletโs nonsense, which will give you an idea of how long he was holding the ball for:
There was still a hell of a lot of work to do, but Jaroslav Plasil rolled the ball to Henri Saivet who thumped it into the roof of the net to give the visitors a 1-0 lead on 33 minutes.
Liverpool hit back within five minutes, James Milner converting from the penalty spot after Christian Benteke was brought down in the box:
And Benteke gave the Reds the lead in first-half stoppage time, turning and firing past Cedric Carrasso from the edge of the box:
I know heโs a good looking guy but creaming him is a bit much
โDo the welfare?, do the welfare?, do the welfare know youโre playing?, doooo the welfare know youโre playing? โ. Ian Bermingham captain fantastic omitted to add his dole fraud during 2011, 2012 & 2013 for which he was convicted.
@Michael McLoughlin: Fake news. He wasnโt convicted. He repaid the money in full (โฌ4512) and the judge struck out the case. http://www.independent.ie/irish-news/courts/soccer-star-avoids-conviction-for-claiming-4k-dole-while-working-31554451.html
Very nice piece Aaron. In a greatest Patโs 11 not many would suggest other challengers to the No 3 jersey worn by Ian Bermingham.
Heโs won 4 champions leagues
@James Baxter: 3 with the La Liga club as stated
