The Waterville native guided the inter-county fortunes of Kerry, Kildare, Laois, Wicklow and Clare.

THE LEGENDARY MICK O’Dwyer has announced his retirement from inter-county GAA.

O’Dwyer told The Irish Independent this morning of his decision to bring the curtain down on a remarkable playing and management career. He won four All-Ireland senior titles as a player with Kerry between 1959 and 1970.

Then O’Dwyer forged his reputation as a manager through stints with Kerry, Kildare, Laois, Wicklow and Clare.

A living legend in GAA. This man should receive all due accolades now rather than waiting to give it posthumously.

Phenomenal record….. 8 All-Irelands with Kerry was incredible enough to rank him as one of the all time mgrs, but they’re expected to be in the mix every year….. to win provincial titles with multiple ‘minor’ football counties brought him to another level.. brought a little bit of magic to those counties when he was there…… & 4 All-Irelands as a player…… absolute legend…
