MICK MCCARTHY SAYS he will not walk away from Ipswich Town after a section of the club’s supporters turned on the former Ireland manager after yesterday’s home defeat to Fulham.
Slavisa Jokanovic’s side ended a 53-year wait for a victory over Ipswich after the 2-0 win, with a vocal portion of the home fans calling for McCarthy to quit after the match.
“I’ve no complaints about it at all. I much preferred it when it was supportive and ‘super Mick’, but as I’ve said before I’ve always known the mood can change very quickly. It’s going to be a tough job to turn that around now though,” the 57-year-old told local reporters.

“I won’t be resigning in the morning if that’s what you’re asking me. I’ll be here on Friday for the game and keep scrapping as I always do. It’s been made harder, that’s for sure.”
“It’s easy for me to come in here and blame my players and say we weren’t any good, but we tried our best, as we always do, and they were better than us.”
With two wins in their last nine games at Portman Road, the Tractor Boys currently sit in 16th place in the Championship table, eight points clear of the relegation zone and 12 points behind Sheffield Wednesday in the final play-off spot, and will face Bristol City at home on Friday.
“We now need to pull together for Friday and produce a performance. That’s the flavour of it. I’m never going to tell you exactly what I said [in the dressing room] to the players and how I said it though.”
McCarthy, who helped Ipswich avoid relegation in his first season in charge after replacing Chris Hutchings in November 2012, has guided the club to 9th, 6th and 7th in the table in the following three seasons, while working with one of the division’s smallest budgets.
The Championship’s longest-serving manager still has 18 months left to run on his current contract.
