MICHAEL SCHUMACHER’S FORMER rival Damon Hill is “praying” for the German as he fights for life following an off-piste skiing accident in the French Alps.
Schumacher fought several memorable on-track battles with Hill during the mid-1990s and the Briton said his thoughts were with his former rival and his family. “We are all praying for Michael’s speedy and full recovery and our thoughts are with Corinna and the children,” said Hill, who won the world title in 1996.
Martin Brundle, a former team-mate of Schumacher’s with the Benetton team, commented, “Michael’s accident is distressing and a great shock, and we have to be very concerned about his chances of survival and return to full health.” Citing late Brazilian great Ayrton Senna, who died following a crash at the San Marino Grand Prix in 1994, Brundle added:
When I read that Michael had received a blow to the right side of his head, I couldn’t help but think of Ayrton, and pondered why these things so often happen to the truly great.

“I sincerely hope and expect of course that this incident has a much happier ending, and I feel sure that his competitive determination and fitness will give him the best chance.”
