That's 19! Michael Phelps picks up another Olympic gold for the mantelpiece

America beat France and Australia in the men’s 4x100m freestyle relay.

– Niall Kelly reports from Rio de Janeiro

THE GREATEST OLYMPIAN of all time just got even greater.

Michael Phelps won a remarkable 19th gold medal, and his 23rd overall, as America won the men’s 4×100 freestyle relay tonight.

America trailed France by 0.02 seconds at the 100-metre mark before Phelps took over for the second leg, swimming 47.12 to edge his team into a lead which they never relinquished.

Their anchor man, Nathan Adrian, made sure of the gold with only sub-47 leg of the night, clocking an individual 46.97 to beat France and Australia into second and third.

With the 100m and 200m butterfly still to come, as well as the 200m individual medley, you can be sure that 31-year-old Phelps isn’t done stocking the mantelpiece just yet.
