Shock as Ireland's Michael O'Reilly crashes out in Olympic boxing qualifier

David Oliver Joyce into the lightwieght quarter-finals in Turkey as O’Reilly suffers defeat.

TOP IRISH HOPEFUL Michael O’Reilly has suffered a shock defeat at the European Olympic qualifiers in Samsun, Turkey.

The reigning European Games champion was the number one seed in the middleweight division but lost a unanimous decision against Finland’s Ilari Kijala on Tuesday afternoon.

O’Reilly will have another shot to clinch a Rio place at the final Olympic qualifier later this summer.

There was better news for David Oliver Joyce who booked his place in the lightweight quarter-finals with a unanimous decision against Otar Eranosyan of Georgia.

Joyce, who has won the EU Championships three times, needs two more wins to guarantee his Olympic spot.

London 2012 Olympian Darren O’Neill is the only Irish boxer still to fight on Tuesday. He takes on Swedish heavyweight Gabriel Richards in this evening’s session.

I think what Lohan meant to say was “You could get the likes of Ger Loughnane to chair that independent committee and give me the managers job”!!

a review is the least that is called for. Something just isn’t right and unless the air is completely cleared the team can’t function properly. And worse the fans Will desert them all bar the 5or so thousand that would follow them anywhere

Independent to me would mean someone not involved at all, ie. outside of the county, doing the review. Then again is there anyone in the GAA considered ‘independent’ and everyone would agree on?
