TWO IRISH BOXERS HAVE booked a place in a European Championships finals tomorrow.

23-year-old Michael Conlan impressed in beating Italian Franccesco Maietta on a scoreline of 30-27, 29-28, 29-28 in Bulgaria this afternoon.

Conlan will be up against Qais Ashfaq of Great Britain in the decider, a repeat of the Commonwealth Games final in which the Irishman won gold last year.

Ashfaq beat Aram Avagyan of Armenia 29-28, 29-28, 29-28.

Meanwhile Joe Ward had a resounding victory in his semi-final, defeating number 1 seed Hrvoje Sep  in style to set up a gold medal fight.

Ward was a unanimous winner, 29:28, 30:27, 29:28, as he bids to win a second European Championship gold medal.

He’ll take on Peter Mullenberg of the Netherlands, after he beat Great Britain’s Joshua Buatsi.

Meanwhile, Adam Nolan has secured a place in October’s World Championships, after Pavel Kastramin beat Swedish welter Clarence Goyeram in their semi-final.
