Michael Conlan hit with maximum fine by boxing chiefs for Rio rant

The Belfast fighter was controversially adjudged to have lost to a Russian.

MICHAEL CONLAN HAS been fined the maximum of 10,000 Swiss Francs by amatuer boxing’s governing body for his post-Olympic Games defeat interview last summer.

The Belfast fighter was controversially adjudged to have lost to Russian Vladimir Nikitin before he launched into an expletive-filled rant which prompted headlines throughout the world.

Conlan has since signed with Top Rank and is set to make his professional debut at Madison Square Gardens on St Patrick’s weekend, so it remains to be seen of he’ll pay the €9,300 fine to IABA.
