Michael Carrick has made a big difference since returning to the United first team*

*At least if statistics are to be believed.

IT’S BEEN WELL documented that Man United have been on an excellent run of late, and it’s ostensibly no coincidence that the club’s rise to third place in the table has coincided with the return of Michael Carrick.

The above stats from Sky’s Monday Night Football back up claims that the experienced midfielder is a key part of United’s team, highlighting Carrick’s extremely reliable passing game in particular.

Many renowned football commentators, including Henry Winter and Gary Neville, have consistently sung the praises of Carrick in recent times, though the 33-year-old is still considered somewhat underrated despite his numerous achievements in English football.

The former Tottenham player also illustrated his importance in defence last night, slotting in at the back and generally looking assured after Paddy McNair had been substituted following one too many nervy moments.

Nevertheless, some United fans certainly rate him highly, if this video is anything to go by…

So what do you think? Is this a case of ‘lies, damned lies and statistics,’ or is Carrick genuinely a key component of United’s improvement in form?
