'Mexico have a history of it' - Four players suspended after Milk Cup on-field brawl

Three Mexican players and one Northern Irish have been handed additional bans after Wednesday night.

THE MILK CUP COMMITTEE has slapped additional suspensions on four players involved in Wednesday night’s on-field incident.

During the Elite section match between Northern Ireland and Mexico, the play was stopped for five minutes as ugly scenes broke out on the pitch.

Four players, three from Mexico and one Irish, were shown red cards before Northern Ireland claimed a 2-1 victory.

After an investigation, the committee has decided to hand Carlos Alberto Arreola and
Kevin Rusel Gutierrez three match bans on top of their automatic one-game suspensions while Raul Manolo Gudino and Robbie McDaid will be banned for a total of two matches.

Speaking to the BBC, Northern Ireland defender Stephen Cragan said: ”I think some of our players had to protect themselves from kicks, punches and head butts.

“It was not nice. There were young kids here from around the world. They were here to watch a football match, they do not expect to see that.

Mexico did it last year, they had a man sent-off for punching. They have a history of it.

“I have to be careful what I say, but I would like to think Mexico will not be back at the Milk Cup.
