Islamic militants congratulate Messi on goal, invite him to 'join the jihadist call'

Lionel Messi picked up some new admirers with his last-minute winner against Iran.

LIONEL MESSI GETS plenty of fan mail, we’re sure, but this has to be one of the more unusual requests.

Islamic militant group ISIS sent Messi a message congratulating him on his wondergoal against Iran, Mehr News Agency said in a report translated by the Brookings Institution.

Not only that, but they were so impressed that they also invited him to “join the jihadist call.”

The message was sent out through Facebook and Twitter accounts affiliated to ISIS, Mehr reports.

Messi and Argentina take on Nigeria in their final Group F game on Wednesday.
