Meet the world’s most talented 70-year-old goalkeeper

In addition to regularly playing for Papiano, Lamberto Boranga is also a poet, doctor and world-record-holding athlete.

GIANLUIGI BUFFON MAY be considered Italy’s most renowned veteran goalkeeper, however at 35, he’s a relative novice compared to 70-year-old Lamberto Boranga.

The former Parma star, who celebrates turning 71 on 30 October, participated in the club’s Trofero del Centenario last week, and showed off his continuing talent with a series of fine saves.

One stop in particular, from another club legend — former Colombia striker, Faustino Asprilla — was especially impressive.

And it was not a once off for Boranga who, in addition to his work as a poet and doctor, has also been regularly turning out for his village team, Papiano, since 2011, and recently signed a contract extension that will tie him to the club until 2015.

Moreover, he has also set world records for his age group in the triple jump and long jump, having competed in the over-65s events since 2008.
