MEATH BEAT WICKLOW 1-17 to 1-12 in the Leinster Championship Quarter Final following an entertaining game in Aughrim this evening.

A Paul Earls goal gave Wicklow the lead on 7 minutes, after Meath had taken an early two-point lead.

However, the Royal County fought back well to re-establish control of the game, and after Seán Furlong missed a penalty that would have enabled Wicklow to go into the lead once more, their opponents extended their advantage with a freak goal from Kevin Reilly just before half-time.

The full-back’s strike from inside the 45m line, with a strong wind behind it, bounced over Wicklow goalkeeper John Flynn and found the back of the net.

Wicklow threatened a comeback with a flurry of points early in the second half, reducing the visitors to a 1-11 to 1-14 after 59 minutes.

However, inspired by the performance of Man of the Match Graham Reilly among others, Meath managed to weather this storm, ultimately holding out to secure a victory in relatively comfortable fashion.
