McIlroy and Harrington still in the hunt in Texas

Billy Horschel, who is seeking his first Tour win, leads the Valero Texas Open by two shots ahead of today’s final round.

RORY MCILROY IS still in the hunt at the Valero Texas Open as he looks for some positive momentum ahead of next week’s Masters.

The world number two shot one-under-par 71 yesterday to move into a tie for fourth place on six-under, four strokes behind overnight leader Billy Horschel.

Horschel, who has never won on the PGA Tour before, can guarantee himself an invitation to the season’s first Major if he holds on take the honours in San Antonio later today.

He currently leads by two shots from Jim Furyk and Charley Hoffman, with Ryan Palmer and Bob Estes a further two shots back alongside Rory McIlroy.

“It could have been a couple of shots better,” McIlroy said afterwards, “but I am still in a decent position going into the last day. Hopefully I can make a run at it.”

Padraig Harrington moved into the top 10 with a round of two-under 70 yesterday. Harrington, whose best finish in America this season was a tie for ninth at the Phoenix Open, is one of five players locked on five-under par.

Ireland’s other challenger Shane Lowry is tied for 17th on two-under-par.
