No surprise - Rory McIlroy is the PGA Tour Player of the Year

Chesson Hadley named Rookie of the Year as McIlroy collects the top prize.

RORY MCILROY HAS been voted PGA Tour Player of the Year.

The award, chosen by McIlroy’s fellow professionals, crowns a stellar season in which he won two Majors and returned to world number one.

The 25-year-old topped the voting ahead of FedEx Cup winner Billy Horschel, US Open champ Martin Kaymer, Jimmy Walker and Masters champion Bubba Watson.

McIlroy found unstoppable form in mid-summer when he won on three consecutive starts at the Open Championship, the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational and the PGA Championship.

He also had runner-up finishes at the Honda Classic and the Tour Championship, seven other top-10 finishes, and unsurprisingly topped the money list with over $8.2 million in official Tour earnings.

It is McIlroy’s second time to win the award (2012).

Chesson Hadley was named PGA Tour Rookie of the Year.

“My congratulations to Rory and Chesson for their outstanding accomplishments that earned them season-ending honors from their peers,” PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem said.

“Both players earned their awards with their consistent and steady play throughout the season.”
