Fancy a round with Rory?

Rory McIlroy insists that his game will not suffer after the US Open last weekend, while one lucky fan will get to play with the star in the Irish Open.

RORY McILROY INSISTS that he can handle the burden of expectation on him in the wake of his remarkable success at the US Open last weekend.

The Northern Irish golfer strolled to an eight-stroke win at Congressional in Maryland to complete the greatest tournament of his fledgling career.

“With success comes expectation. I know expectations on me are pretty high now, but I expect big things of myself anyway,” McIlroy told Sky Sports at his homecoming in Holywood, near Belfast.

“As long as I keep committed and dedicated, I don’t see any reason why I won’t handle it (extra pressure) well.”

The 22-year-old was also quick to describe his performance as the best of his career.

“Last week was fabulous. The golf I played – I’ve never played before in my life,” he said.

“I always wanted to believe that I could win a Major, but until you do, you never know. It feels great.”

Meanwhile, fans will be given the chance to play alongside McIlroy during the upcoming Irish Open in Killarney. Anyone buying a ticket will go into a draw to take part in the pre-tournament pro-am. Not only that but the winner will be put up in four-star accommodation for two nights.
