RORY McILROY HAD a day to forget in Florida, the Holywood golfer registering a second successive 72 to miss the cut at the Honda Classic.
The world number three was level-par for the day after his front nine, having started on the 10th, picking up birdies on the 12th and 16th and carding a double bogey on the par-three 15th.
He was still level-par for the day when playing the fifth, his 14th of the day, when things took a turn for the worse.
His par-three troubles continued as he registered a treble-bogey six to end the 26-year-old’s hopes of staying in the tournament.

McIlroy chipped in for birdie on the following hole but the damage was done at that stage and he signed for a two-over-par 72, to leave him four-over for the tournament and one shot behind the cut-line.
There was much better news for the reigning champion, his playing partner Padraig Harrington, though, the Dubliner recovering from a shaky bogey-double bogey start to pick up seven birdies in his next 11 holes.
Two late bogeys took the gloss off a fine round from Harrington but he will be relieved to be playing this weekend after an opening-round 73.

Graeme McDowell had a solid second round, the 36-year-old dropping just one shot and picking up two birdies on his way to carding a one-under-par 69 to move to even-par for the tournament.
Shane Lowry, who was just two shots off the leaders when play began today, had a round to forget; finishing five-over for the day and dropping back to two-over for the tournament.
