Rory McIlroy set to 'reconsider' Olympics position
RORY MCILROY HAS admitted that he’ll “reconsider” his position on who he represents at the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
McIlroy recently suggested he was leaning towards representing Britain, as he “always felt more British than Irish”.
However, the golfer now admits some fans’ negative reaction to the comments had an impact on him, telling reporters:
“It hit home with me at how my success is welcomed by everyone. It would be terrible for me to segregate myself from one of those groups that supports me so much.
“It definitely makes me reconsider my position and reconsider a lot of things,” said McIlroy, while reiterating that he had yet to reach a final decision on which country he would represent.
McIlroy is currently top of the FedEx Cup points list and can seal the $10 million victory should he triumph later this week.
