McGuinness: Even I didn't know how good we were

Donegal manager Jim McGuinness admits that his side has defied all expectations, ahead of the All-Ireland semi-final against Dublin.

JIM McGUINNESS, MANAGER of the Donegal footballers, says even he doesn’t know how good his own squad is ahead of their All-Ireland semi-final clash with Dublin on Sunday.

Donegal ended a long wait for an Ulster title before beating Kildare in a thrilling quarter-final at Croke Park, and McGuinness says his side’s exploits have come as something of a surprise to him.

“It is great. I suppose everybody has been on a high since the Ulster final and looking forward to the All-Ireland series,” RTE reports McGuinness as saying.

“We had a titanic battle with Kildare in the quarter-final. With the game being on a knife-edge it could have gone either way, so to come the other end of it and get another day out has been a huge plus for us.

“It is very new. We don’t really know the capabilities of our own players yet. They showed us something the last day that they had and that was they were prepared to go to the end of the earth to try to get us over the line.”
