IT’S OVER THREE months since we last saw Conor McGregor in action, and fans have been waiting patiently for the 26-year-old to return to the UFC octagon.
But the good news is that McGregor’s next assignment is only twelve days away, and the promotion has started to fire up the hype machine ahead of his main-event bout at UFC Boston on Sunday, 18 January.
This latest UFC promo video doesn’t actually mention McGregor’s opponent, so in case you didn’t know, he’ll be taking on veteran Russian-German fighter Dennis Siver.
But with UFC president Dana White promising McGregor a shot at reigning UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo if he wins, all eyes will be on the Dubliner.
Featuring footage from all four of McGregor’s UFC wins to date, as well as some of his best one-liners, this new promo — which you can check out below — is certainly worth 62 seconds of your time.
“To go down as the greatest of all-time, you need to put these people away and put them away in style,” McGregor said. “I truly feel unstoppable right now.
“In the whole history of MMA, no one has done what I’ve done or is doing what I’m doing. I personally have a vision of myself as the world champion. This is the beginning of the McGregor era.”
Don’t forget that although the UFC Boston prelims are scheduled to begin at 11pm Irish time on Sunday, 18 January, it will be the early hours of Monday morning before the first of the four Irishmen takes to the octagon.
Paddy Holohan, Cathal Pendred and Norman Parke are also on the bill, with McGregor’s bout likely to kick off at around 4.30am. Plenty of coffee and snacks should get you through the night, but as for the rest of Monday, hopefully the memories of four Irish victories will see you through.
Poor siver doesn’t get a look in again
Should be a good fight. Siver is no pushover and if he gets in close regularly, he’ll beat McGregor.
Does anyone know what it is he reckons he’s done that’s never been done before in the history of MMA? Last time I checked he’d won 4 or 5 fights???
Was thinking the same thing. Hasn’t even fought one of the top 3 in his weight division yet. Would love to see how he deals with Aldo so hope he wins.
He’s talking about coming in as a relative unknown on the big stage to a title shot within 2 years (With 10 months off with a cruciate Iigament injury right in the middle). About being one of the UFC’s biggest draws after only a few fights. About having a greater capacity to put butts in seats than anyone else in the UFC. He’s also stopping most of the guys he’s fought in round 1.
Who’s going to be showing it on TV??
BT Sports.
i say 3e should show it
Rte are cancelling ear to the ground s19 e8 so they can show it.
With each passing interview, McGregor is creating a situation whereby he simply must win all of the time. Nothing else is acceptable. His cockiness means that any defeat will make him look like a mug. He is very hard to listen to. He called Dennis Siver a nazi, which is a complete no-no. His recent rantings about the RTÉ Sports awards were embarrassing. He has referenced blood being spilled in Croke Park this summer, which is the height of insensitivity considering the stadium’s history. The list goes on.
McGregor is a good fighter but, as a person, he has few redeeming qualities. I don’t subscribe to the view that we should support a guy just because he’s Irish, even though he’s incapable of displaying an ounce of humility,
