Conor McGregor refuses football match with Jose Aldo, throws darts at him instead

The Notorious is in Rio to promote their UFC title bout in July.

“I’M WEARING MY team-mate’s jocks.”

Conor McGregor has just begun a hectic promotional tour for UFC 189, so you can expect to hear plenty from ‘The Notorious’ over the coming week or so.

However, it didn’t start well for him. McGregor arrived in Rio de Janeiro this week but his baggage didn’t. The Dublin featherweight subsequently had to borrow underwear from team-mate Artem Lobov before attending a media gig in an Irish pub in Rio last night.

Starting with a press conference in Rio at 5pm Irish time today — which you can watch live here — McGregor and defending champion Jose Aldo will visit eight cities in five countries over the next 12 days to promote their 11 July UFC featherweight title bout, culminating in Dublin on 31 March.

The UFC wanted McGregor and Aldo to clash in a game of football but the SBG man wasn’t too keen on the idea, as he told reporters last night.

“They tried to get us to play a game, to play football together,” McGregor said. “The fuck? I’m not playing football with him. I’m not here to play friends. I’m not here to play games with this fool. I’m here to kill him.

“I’m ready to fight tomorrow. If something kicks off, I’m ready to go. There’s no commission out here, so if shit pops off I’m ready. I know that much. People think it’s a joke and I’m playing the joker. We’ll see who’s the joke tomorrow.

“They love me out here. I own this town. I own Rio. Where is Jose? He’s not even here. Rumour has it he fled the country. I love it here. It’s good to be here. I’ll definitely fight here. I love Brazil. And Brazil loves me. Make no mistake, Brazil loves me.”

McGregor also took aim at Aldo during a game of darts.
