McGregor offered to bet $3 million on the result of his UFC 189 bout

Mendes will be stopped in the second round, according to McGregor’s bank account.

IT’S NO SECRET that Conor McGregor doesn’t lack confidence. However, even by his standards, this is quite a bold statement.

According to UFC president Dana White, who was speaking on The Jim Rome Show, McGregor offered to make a $3 million bet with he and UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta.

McGregor is so certain that he’ll finish Chad Mendes in the second round of Saturday’s UFC 189 main event that he was willing to put an enormous chunk of cash on the line.

As the promoters of the bout, for White and Fertitta to accept the bet would have represented a considerable conflict of interest. The UFC bosses declined McGregor’s offer but were certainly impressed by his level of confidence.

“You want to know how confident this kid is?” White said. “I can’t even believe I’m going to say this, but he told Lorenzo and I the other day, ‘I’ll bet you $3 million I knock him out in the second round.

“I like to bet, I don’t know if I’m that willing to take that bet. When I tell you how extremely confident this guy is in himself, it’s fascinating. He is a very unique, fascinating person to listen to. Fun to listen to, and fun to watch.”
