Two goals and a red card for Aidan O'Shea as his club dethrone the Mayo champions

Breaffy are back in the county final.

Breaffy 4-7
Ballintubber 1-12

AIDAN O’SHEA WAS the man who provided the magic for Breaffy as he led his side to their second ever senior county final today in Castlebar.

O’Shea scored two goals and was fouled for a penalty as Breaffy dethroned last year’s champions Ballintubber on a scoreline of 4-7 to 1-12.

Two goals inside the opening ten minutes gave Breaffy the dream start, with O’Shea bagging the first after being picked out by Keith Mulchone. Tommy Reilly scored the second, palming to the net from close range after a flowing move down the right channel.

Ballintubber regrouped before the break, with Cillian O’Connor kicking four points in the opening half-an-hour and they went in at the interval trailing by 2-4 to 0-6.

The county champions started the second-half well and it was back to a two-point game eight minutes into the half. But just after the 40-minute mark, O’Shea was hauled down inside the large rectangle and the penalty was dispatched by full-back Michael Jennings.

Just before the three-quarter mark, Seamus O’Shea picked out the middle brother in the family and he drove the ball home from close range to seal the win.

Ballintubber kept chipping away on the scoreboard as the game wound down and Cillian O’Connor did bag a goal from a free to bring the gap back to four.

Aidan O’Shea received his marching orders for a second yellow card in injury time, but at that stage the damage was done and his side’s place in the county senior final was assured.
