Mayo name side for Rebel assignment

James Horan show his hand early as Connacht champs prepare for Croker trip to take on Conor Counihan’s Cork.

MAYO MANAGER JAMES Horan has made two changes for the All-Ireland SFC quarter-final with Cork this weekend.

The Connacht champions face the Rebels at Croke Park on Sunday (throw-in 4.00pm).

The county this afternoon revealed their starting XV on their official website. Ger Cafferkey comes in for Alan Feeney in the full-back line while Garrymore man Enda Varley replaces Jason Doherty at corner-forward.

Cork, of course, plan without sharp-shooting forward Daniel Goulding who was injured in the victory over Down. Conor Counihan will also name a team without Barry O’Driscoll who replaced Goulding before breaking his jaw against the Mourne County.

Horan, meanwhile, says his charges will not choke on the biggest stage in Gaelic games – like so many Mayo sides before.

He told Gordon Manning in today’s Irish Sun (print edition) that ‘there’s no baggage’ ahead of the journey east.

“The last few times we’ve been there it hasn’t been too good. It can get into lads’ heads but if you weigh it out we’ve had a lot of good days there as well.”

Mayo (v Cork, All-Ireland SFC quarter-final): R Hennelly, K Higgins, G Cafferkey, T Cunniffe, R Feeney, D Vaughan, T Mortimer, A O’Shea, S O’Shea, K McLoughlin, A Dillon, A Moran, E Varley, A Freeman, C O’Connor.
