THE MAYO COUNTY board has warned fans to beware of bogus fundraising ahead of next month’s All-Ireland football finals.
The county is expected to reach fever pitch over the next four weeks ahead of their involvement in both the senior and minor deciders in Croke Park on 22 September.

Organisations in Ireland and further afield are trying to cash in on the excitement, the county board warned, by fraudulently posing as official fundraisers for the teams.
“It has come to our attention that there are certain organisations both on the island of Ireland and overseas perpetrating to be raising funds for our senior and minor teams on behalf of the Mayo County Board,” a statement read.
“These organisations are using the success of our teams to mislead our very loyal supporters into contributing financially claiming that their funds will go towards the team training funds.”
Official fundraisers will be carried out by Cáirde Mhaigheo in the coming weeks and the county board is encouraging anyone with doubts about the legitimacy of a scheme to contact it for further clarification.
“Supporters should be aware that the only funds raised that go towards our team training funds are those raised under our Cáirde Mhaigheo fundraising umbrella and only authorised by the Executive of Mayo County Board.
“In the build up to the All-Ireland Football Championship Finals there will be certain fundraising activities carried out by Cáirde Mhaigheo whereby the funds raised will go directly to the team training funds.
“If anyone is unsure whether a fundraising activity is legitimately going towards the team training fund then please contact the Mayo County Board or any officer of the Executive.”
