TORRO ROSSO DRIVER Max Verstappen has passed his driving test - six months after competing in his first Formula One Grand Prix.
Verstappen, who also turned 18 on Wednesday, gained his FIA Super Licence last year, but remained unable to legally drive on public roads.
But, after five hours of lessons in 10 days, Verstappen – F1′s youngest-ever driver – successfully obtained his driving licence.
“It’s great to be 18 and to have a driving licence,” he said on his website. “That I’m finally allowed on the road on my own gives me more independence, which is great! I have to say it’s a relief to pass the test.
“If I want to go somewhere on my own, at least now I’m able to jump in my Renault Clio RS and go. That sense of liberty feels great.
“I was a bit nervous to make mistakes but the exam went well.”
Verstappen has impressed during his debut season in F1, finishing fourth in Hungary in July.
Wasn’t Nigel Mansell driving in F1 for years before he passed his driving test.
I could be wrong but I think Jahno trulli didn’t drive on the road at all
Cart before the horse shtyle!!
Hope he has his N plates up
Father was a Formula one driver, mother was a karting champion. he was probably born with wheels attached
There was a BBC One feature on Max before the Belgian GP. To say he was born with wheels is an understatement. His dad has put a massive amount of work into Max’s career and it’s no surprise after watching the BBC feature how quickly Max has developed. Jos himself was a fantastic driver but always had awful cars to drive & never got to fulfill his potential. He’s making damn sure Max doesn’t waste his!
future multiple f1 champ.amazing talent.
