Matthew Macklin's fight postponed after trainer Jamie Moore shot in Spain

Ex-European champion, Jamie Moore is in hospital after shooting

MATTHEW MACKLIN’S FIGHT with Jorge Sebastien Heilan – a title eliminator scheduled for Saturday, 30 August — has been postponed in the wake of his trainer’s shooting this week.

Jamie Moore was shot twice in the legs in Marbella, where the English fighter was working with the middleweight Macklin.

“I am disappointed to have to postpone my fight but in the light of the circumstances and the disruption to my preparation it is the right thing to do,” said Macklin. “Every fight at this stage in my career is of huge importance and being 100 per cent for the night is vital. We will make an announcement shortly on a new date and I look forward to fighting in Dublin in 2014.”

Organisers say any tickets purchased for the National Stadium show will be automatically refunded to the card holder
