VIDEO: Matt O'Connor confirms Gibbes' departure to Clermont

The Australian will need to bring in a new forwards coach at the end of the season.

LEINSTER HEAD COACH Matt O’Connor has confirmed that forwards coach Jono Gibbes will join up with Clermont Auvergne at the end of the season.

O’Connor told TheScore.ie that the New Zealander would remain on at the province until the end of the season before joining up as part of a new coaching set-up at the Top 14 side. Gibbes, who has been at Leinster under three head coaches, will be Clermont’s forwards coach, O’Connor understands, and will not be taking on the top job.

The Australian wished Gibbes well but admitted the timing of the announcement was not ideal. The forwards coach told the Leinster players of his intentions after the league champions’ home win over Cardiff Blues.
